the plastic surgeon

so in my last post, i showed u art that looks like toys.  now i want to show u toys that are considered art.

actually, there seems to be a ‘movement’ around this whole idea that toys can be pieces of art in themselves  (wiki entry on the subject if this is news to u:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Designer_toys )

one gent who works in this genre is jason freeny. his ‘thing’ is to take an existing toy, dissect, and then reconstructs it so you can see it’s skeleton and internal organs.

freeny posts his work-in-progress of ongoing projects on his facebook account, showing the entire workflow, which does make for very interesting reading (or should that be looking? watching maybe?)

he mainly modifies existing toys as one-off pieces of art.. this allows him to use existing toys without infringing copyright. but he has also worked on some projects that have received a larger distribution – such as gummy bears complete with bones and guts! he is also developing some of his own IP too.
